If you are into nature, then the Wadden Sea is almost a paradise. The nature is world class with a rich wildlife. The Wadden Sea is home to millions of migratory birds, a large seal population and an incredible biodiversity. You get good nature experiences all year round.
The stunning scenery invites exploration and activity. You can get close to the nature of the Wadden Sea in many ways. Step on the pedals on one of the area's many signposted cycle routes or lace up your boots and discover the Marskstien near Højer. Take a guide out into nature and get close to both birds, seals, the Wadden Sea itself and a wealth of other incredible nature.
At the Wadden Sea you will also find some of Europe's largest bathing beaches. Both Rømø and Fanø have kilometers of beach, where there is room to laze on the towel, enjoy a good ice cream and have fun with the family, and at the same time there is room for great wind sports - which you can also try your hand at on holiday. Try a ride in a block type and sail along the beach, with the wind as the engine and the wide beach as the roadway.
If you have the courage for a calmer engine, then jump in the saddle and experience the Wadden Sea from horseback, with opportunities for riding at all levels.
When you visit the Wadden Sea, it is not only nature and tranquility that you should look forward to. The Wadden Sea has left its mark on the area's rich and diverse cultural life. Discover the many art and culture museums, see the whale skeleton on Rømø, see the beautiful folk costumes on Fanø and look forward to a visit to Denmark's oldest city Ribe, where the cathedral towers up in the otherwise flat landscape.
Who is behind the Denmark campaign By the Wadden Sea is part of the campaign "Much more than just Denmark". The site has been prepared to create an increased desire to travel in Denmark and inspire all our guests to new holiday experiences. Behind the effort are 19 Danish destinations, Danish Coast and Nature Tourism, Danish City Tourism and VisitDenmark. The campaign is supported by the Danish Business Promotion Board.
